Methodology

Metric: the share of adults 65 and older who said they had provided care for a friend or family member within the past month. Source: the CDC Alzheimer's Disease and Healthy Aging Data program, Socrata resource hfr9-rurv on data.cdc.gov, question Q36, survey year 2021, age stratification 65PLUS, overall (not split by sex or race). Sorted highest to lowest.

48 states and territories reported this question in 2021. National and census region rollup rows are excluded from the ranking and the United States row is shown separately at the bottom of the table for comparison.

Two survey series in one table. Forty of these 48 jurisdictions publish a single year 2021 estimate and that is the figure shown. Eight publish only a 2021 to 2022 pooled estimate and are marked (p): Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Washington. Where a jurisdiction appears in both series the two do not always agree, so treat a rank that turns on a fraction of a point as a rank between two different survey windows.
